Nadal Ends Federer's Streak at 5 and CC heads to Milwaukee
The 2008 Wimbledon Final had the dream matchup of #1 versus #2, Roger Federer versus Rafael Nadal. Federer had won 5 straight Wimbledon titles and did not lose a set entering the finals. Rafael Nadal is fresh off his 2008 French Championship. This matchup was so anticipated, and did not disappoint. Nadal jumped out to a quick 2-0 set lead, and had a chance to put Federer away in straight sets, but Federer kept himself alive winning the third set 7-6. Roger then won the fourth set to knot the sets at 2 a piece. But in the end, Nadal won the fifth and final set ending Federer's Wimbledon streak at 5. Nadal in my opinion, with this victory is now the #1 tennis player in the world. Federer has struggled it seems as of late, and Nadal has surged and has won two straight majors. Nonetheless, these two guys had an epic match Sunday afternoon lasting over 5 hours and putting tennis in the spotlight. Many people have said it was the greatest tennis matchup they have ever wi! tnessed.
The Indians and Brewers have finally agreed to a trade that sends the 2007 Cy Young award winner to Milwaukee for a handful of top prospects. The Milwaukee Brewers now have a lethal one-two punch with CC Sabathia and Ben Sheets. Milwaukee has a fantastic lineup and now one of the better rotations in the NL. They still need bullpen help, but I am sure this is not the last move they make. I said in my Midseason Report Milwaukee would be the NL Wildcard team and I believe with this trade they are a World Series favorite. ace Ben Sheets and SS J.J. Hardy both have expiring contracts this season and the Brewers realize that this may be their best chance ever to win a World Series and they are going for it. Sabathia is also a free agent to be and will likely walk after this season. Well it is quite obvious what Milwaukee is getting from this deal, but what about Cleveland. Well the Indians are getting a stockpile of young superstars. The centerpiece of the ! deal is OF Matt LaPorta. This kid is a future stud and is tea! ring the cover off the ball in AA. LaPorta will be a many time All-Star in his career. Cleveland also gets two minor league pitchers and a player to be named later. Milwaukee has the best AA team around, and Cleveland wanted at least one of three other superstar infielders, but Milwaukee did not want to deal any of them along with LaPorta. Cleveland settled for just LaPorta knowing this offer was too good to pass up because Sabathia will be wearing another uniform once free agency hits this offseason anyway. Cleveland cut their losses and will start to implement younger players on their Major League roster because of their abysmal record. Both teams benefited from this deal.
